The reason I’m giving it four star is because the inside pattern is so tiny, it’s unlikely to have much help. This might disappoint you if you’re looking for a true slow feeder. But as a regular bowl, the quality and design are totally worth it. Still a recommend.

    Bottom design is cute!

Practical design that I’ve been looking for! Great stability for backyard use, here me out. When you set this bowl on the ground, it’s the underside of the pentagonal body that touches down, not the bottom of the bowl itself. Additionally, there are certain space between the container part and the underside (you can find this detail in the product pics), which is offering extra grab on the grass. If you ever put any flat-bottomed bowls on an uneven surface, like sand or grass, you will understand that this design could make some differences. Good bowls!

Keeps the water cool, this is good material I like the quality and design for the price.

I purchased two of these for my Dane, one for food another for water. I think it doesn’t have much effect on slowing down the eating pace, the slow feed section is too shallow. But if you take them as regular bowls, they are truly great. Very stable, smooth and easy to keep clean. Love’em!

Top 10 FAQs About Slow Feeder Dog Bowls

Slow feeder dog bowls are crafted with a distinctive approach to managing a dog’s eating habits. These bowls are equipped with an intricate interior layout that features elevated ridges or barriers, effectively creating a maze-like environment for the food. This design disperses the kibble or wet food across the bowl, forcing the dog to spend more time and effort to consume the same amount of food that would be quickly gobbled up from a regular bowl, thereby decreasing the risk of air swallowing and Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV).

By integrating obstacles and dividing the food, slow feeder bowls encourage dogs to take smaller bites and slow down their eating, which can lead to improved digestion and dining habits.

Slow feeder dog bowls are versatile and can be suitable for a wide range of dogs, regardless of size or breed, but it’s important to consider the individual dog’s needs, preferences, and any breed-specific traits that might affect how they interact with the bowl. With larger canines needing more expansive and intricate puzzles to challenge their eating habits effectively, while smaller dogs might benefit from appropriately scaled versions.

For the most part, dogs can transition naturally from regular bowls to slow feeders without the need for human intervention. However, if you wish to guide your dog more effectively through this process, here are some helpful tips:

  1. Gradual Introduction: Introduce the slow feeder bowl slowly by placing it next to the regular bowl and offering food in both to help the dog get accustomed to the new design.
  2. Familiarization: Offer a small amount of food in both bowls to familiarize the dog with the slow feeder bowl.
  3. Positive Reinforcement: Use praise or treats to encourage the dog to approach and interact with the slow feeder bowl.
  4. Patience: Allow the dog to explore the bowl and figure it out at their own pace, understanding that some dogs may take longer to adapt.
  5. Monitoring: Keep an eye on the dog’s initial reactions to the slow feeder bowl.
  6. Guidance and Training: Provide guidance or training if necessary, helping the dog understand how to navigate the maze or obstacles to access their food.
  7. Adaptation: Over time, most dogs will learn to appreciate the challenge and slower pace of eating that the slow feeder bowl offers.

Our slow feeder dog bowls are specifically designed to extend the time it takes for a dog to eat their meal, which can vary depending on the dog’s size, eating habits, and the complexity of the slow feeder’s design. On average, they can slow down a dog’s eating speed by three to four times the normal pace. Some dogs may take even longer, especially if they are particularly food-motivated or have a history of eating quickly. Our built-in obstacles of the slow feeder force the dog to navigate around them in order to access the food, which naturally slows down the eating process.

These innovative feeding systems are designed to engage pets both mentally and physically as they navigate the bowl’s puzzle-like features to access their food. This interaction not only alleviates boredom but also serves as a preventative measure against destructive behaviors that can arise from a lack of stimulation.

Moreover, slow feeding has been linked to improved satiety, helping dogs feel fuller for longer durations and potentially curbing overeating tendencies.

While the primary design goal of slow feeders is not specifically weight loss but rather to improve overall health by slowing down a dog’s eating speed, they can indeed play a supportive role in a dog’s weight management plan.

The controlled eating environment provided by slow feeder bowls is associated with enhanced satiety. By extending the mealtime experience, slow feeders encourage a more mindful eating habit, which can help dogs feel fuller for longer periods.

This increased sensation of fullness can be instrumental in managing a dog’s caloric intake. It can prevent overeating and reduce the likelihood of consuming excess food that contributes to weight gain. Additionally, the slower eating pace may give the dog’s body more time to recognize the feeling of satiety, potentially leading to a decrease in overall food consumption.

Moreover, slow feeders can be particularly beneficial for pets with a tendency to gulp their food, a behavior that often accompanies overeating. By changing the eating pattern, slow feeders can help these pets consume their food in a more measured way, which can contribute to better weight control.

It’s important to note, however, that slow feeders should be used as part of a comprehensive weight management strategy that includes a balanced diet, portion control, and regular exercise. While they can be a helpful tool in managing a dog’s weight, they are not a substitute for a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle.

Functionally, the slow feeder inserts and our slow feeder dog bowls serve the same purpose of slowing down a dog’s eating speed, but they differ in their approach and design.

Slow feeder inserts are individual attachments that can fit into different bowl sizes and typically rely on suction to stay in place, often made from materials like silicone, PP, and rubber. While many inserts are advertised as food-grade, their soft materials can pose a risk when used by aggressive eaters. There’s a possibility that dogs might bite and ingest parts of the insert. Additionally, the suction of slow feeder inserts may weaken over time, which could allow dogs to easily chew them out and potentially tip over the bowl during feeding.

The way we create these slow feeders is designed to enhance their stability and durability, thereby easing the pet care routine. Our slow feeder dog bowls are made from 18/8 stainless steel, also known as grade 304, which stands as the best metal material for pet bowls on the market. Utilizing our custom molds, the interior design is seamlessly integrated with the bowl’s body as a single unit, eliminating the need for welding. This process ensures smooth transitions between all parts, resulting in a hygienic and easy-to-clean surface for your dog to access.

Unlikely. When dogs get used to slow feeders, they’re not just adapting to the bowl—they’re learning a new, slower eating rhythm.

The design of slow feeder bowls encourages a more deliberate and measured approach to eating, which helps dogs learn to eat at a slower and more controlled rate. Over time, this can lead to a permanent change in their eating behavior. Dogs become accustomed to the slower pace and its benefits, such as reduced gulping of air and a more satisfying mealtime experience.

Moreover, dogs will come to understand that their food remains available even when they eat slowly. This psychological shift is perhaps the most significant change.

It’s possible that the answer is no. The principle of slow feeders involves dispersing the food, which increases the search effort for dogs during mealtime and slows down their consumption. However, if the design becomes overly complex or challenging, it may have counterproductive effects. Furthermore, intricate patterns are often made from softer materials, which introduces more uncertainties on safety and durability.

Potential Safety Concerns:

  1. Choking Hazards: Some slow feeder bowls have complex designs that could potentially pose a choking risk if a piece were to break off. It’s important to regularly inspect these sections for any signs of wear and tear.
  2. Material Safety: Ensure they are made from non-toxic, food-grade materials. Some bowls might be made from stainless steel, which is generally safe, but others could use plastic or rubber inserts that must be food-grade to avoid ingestion of harmful substances.
  3. Size and Design: Bowls with very small compartments might not be suitable for large breeds or dogs that eat a lot at once, as they could lead to frustration or attempts to bite or break the bowl.
  4. Cleaning: Those complex designs in slow feeder inserts might have hard-to-reach areas where food can get trapped, leading to bacterial growth if not cleaned properly.

Crafted from our custom molds, this ensures seamless integration between every part of the bowl, eliminating gaps where dirt can accumulate. The careful polishing achieves a sleek and smooth surface, which facilitates simple cleaning with just a quick wipe by a kitchen towel.

As expected, our slow feeder dog bowls are dishwasher-safe, so you can confidently place them in your dishwasher for a more convenient cleaning process.
